John Waldow Nominated for Tokyo 2020

From New Zealand Water Polo:

John Waldow, New Zealand Water Polo’s National Referee Director has been nominated to officiate at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The nomination comes off the back of some solid refereeing at domestic competitions in New Zealand to international tournaments such as the recent FINA World Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea.

While Waldow has officiated at some of the biggest water polo tournaments around the world in recent years, he said the opportunity to referee has been a life-long dream.

“The Olympics Games has been the pinnacle event for our sport for the last 120 years. To be selected by FINA is a real honour for which I am truly grateful as this is the realisation of a life-long dream” Waldow said.

New Zealand Water Polo Chairman, Anthony Quirk, congratulated Waldow on his selection.

“To be selected to officiate at the Olympic Games is the pinnacle of a lot of hard work and the ability to perform at the highest level. We are excited to have John represent New Zealand in Tokyo 2020”

Waldow will travel to Tokyo in July along with other referees, delegates, officials and athletes from around the world.
