The AWP standard

How we show up matters.

The AWP referee guide describes officials as facilitators of the game and sets clear expectations around preparation, presentation, professionalism, respect and communication.
Be punctual. Referees should be at the venue early enough to check the playing environment and prepare for the game.
Be prepared. Know your assignment, understand the competition and check the field of play and game sheet.
Be professional. Work with the table, communicate clearly and represent Auckland Water Polo appropriately around the venue.
Be respectful. Treat players, coaches, fellow officials and others in the competition environment fairly and respectfully.
Know the rules. Keep up with current rules and interpretations and continue developing your knowledge.
Keep learning. Seek feedback, reflect on games and use practical experience as part of your development.
